Andrew Hisey
Dr. Hisey has 17+ years experience as a musician and educator in institutions of higher education and community music schools. He is an ardent supporter of music/arts curricula. He has taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto; University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN; St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN; and at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Ohio. In particular, he founded and directed the community-based piano program at Oberlin. Dr. Hisey is an active presenter and performer.
Yvonne Gray
Assistant to the Director
Yvonne is a Senior Administrative Secretary for the Department of Music and Arts Technology at IUPUI and also serves as Assistant to the Director of the IUPUI Music Academy. She received an Associate of Arts in General Studies with honors from Indiana University, Bloomington, in December 2003 and is currently working on her Bachelor’s in General Studies, with a concentration in the Humanities.



John Alvarado
John Alvarado, guitar, received his Bachelor of Music degree in performance from DePaul University and his Master of Music degree from Arizona State University in classical guitar, studying with noted guitarist and pedagogue Frank Koonce. He has performed in master classes with Stephen Robinson, Eliot Fisk, John Duarte, and Javier Garcia Moreno. Mr. Alvarado has been an active supporter of contemporary music, participating in premiers of works by Sergio Assad, Dusan Bogdanovic, John Bauer, and Dave Burdick. His performing interest also focuses on the music of Latin American composers as well as the study of Flamenco music. Other performances have included concerts at the Indianapolis Artsgarden, the Indianapolis Art Center, the Arizona Mind Jam Music and Arts Festival, and numerous appearances on the radio show, Indy Arts and Entertainment. He has also collaborated with artists in other performing media including spoken word and dance performances. In addition to performing, John is an active educator. Previously, he taught guitar at Arizona State University, Prescott College, Phoenix College, Mesa Arts Center, and Marian College.
René Anderson
Pre-School, Beginning Piano, Voice
René Anderson has been teaching voice at IUPUI since the fall of 1998. She holds a B.A. in Music Education from Indiana State University and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas where she specialized in Voice Pedagogy. An active performer, Ms. Anderson has performed in many choirs, musicals, and operas, including the Indianapolis Opera Company, Footlite Musicals, the Edyvean Repertory Theatre, and Carmel Community Players. She is also a choir member and frequent soloist at Fairview Presbyterian Church.
Amy Chee
Pre-School, Piano
Originally from Malaysia, Amy received her Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from Universiti Sains Malaysia before earning her Master’s in Music at Butler University. She has more than 15 years experience teaching in the Indianapolis and greater Indianapolis region. Her students range from ages three to adult. She is a certified Harmony Road instructor and teaches pre-school keyboard classes at Beth-El-Zedeck Early Childhood Center. Currently, Amy holds an adjunct position at Butler University. Additionally, she teaches private lessons with the Butler Community Arts School, the IUPUI Music Academy, and in her own piano studio in Noblesville. She is also an active accompanist and collaborator, playing in several schools, at private events, weddings, and churches in the Indianapolis area.
Shannon M. Crow
Violin, Viola
A graduate of Butler University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Shannon M. Crow has been teaching private violin and viola lessons for almost 15 years. Her extensive experience includes working with students ranging in age from 7 to 70. Currently, she is an instructor for the Broad Ripple Magnet High School for the Arts and Humanities, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, the Butler Community Arts School, and the IUPUI Music Academy. When not mentoring individual students, directing the Butler Children’s Orchestra, or coaching at a variety of summer music camps, Ms. Crow is an avid performer for orchestras, weddings, private events, and religious celebrations.
