IUPUI Music Academy Policies and Procedures
Tuition and Fees
After the academy processes your registration, you will be sent an invoice. Full payment or other payment arrangements must be made before instruction may begin. A one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $35 is required for all new students. Continuing students do not need to pay a registration fee.
Tuition for classes is based on a minimum enrollment of four students per class. If enrollment is less than four students, an additional $20 fee will be applied to cover instructional cost. The IUPUI Music Academy reserves the right to cancel classes not meeting the minimum enrollments. If a class is cancelled, the academy will make every effort to reschedule the student for another class at a convenient time.
Late registration for classes is permitted only with the approval of the instructor. There will be no pro-rating of class for late registrations. All late registrations for classes will be charged a $10 late fee.
If the student is delinquent in payment, the academy reserves the right to discontinue instruction until payment obligations are met. There will be no make-up classes for those missed because of late payment. Students on a payment plan who discontinue instruction during a semester are still responsible for full payment of that semester’s tuition and fees. There is a charge of $20 for all returned checks.
Notice of intention to withdraw must be received in writing by the director of the academy. Refunds are an exception to the policy and are considered only when full tuition and fees have been paid, and the student withdraws before the beginning of the fourth week of the semester. In such cases, 100% of the tuition is refundable if the student withdraws before classes begin. During the first week, 75% of the tuition is refundable, 50% during the second week, and 25% during the third week of the semester.
Refunds due to a student’s withdrawal are for tuition only. Students on financial aid forfeit their aid upon withdrawal.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
The academy provides financial assistance to students on the basis of financial need, teacher recommendation, and available funding resources. Only students registered for a full term are considered for financial aid. Application forms are available online or may be obtained from the academy office.
- Free admission to all academy performances, including our annual faculty recital.
- A discount of $15 and waiver of the new student registration fee are offered to the second and subsequent registrants within the same family. (This applies only when students reside in the same household and are registering for a full semester.)
- The new student registration fee is waived to all persons ages 60 or older.
Notify your teacher when you cannot attend a private lesson or class. However, we cannot excuse you from payment of lessons for which you have contracted.
